Perspectives in Leadership Forum with Paul Ryan
Tuesday, May 22, 2012
6:00 p.m. Lecture
7:00 p.m. Dinner

The Reagan Foundation is pleased to announce that United States Congressman Paul Ryan will deliver the Perspectives in Leadership Forum at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on Tuesday, May 22, 2012.  Congressman Ryan will discuss A Rendezvous with Reagan's Legacy: Lessons for 2012.”  Tickets are $65 per person and include a served dinner in the Library’s Air Force One Pavilion following the lecture.

A fifth-generation native of Janesville, Wisconsin, Paul Ryan has represented the First Congressional District since 1998, carrying forth Wisconsin’s proud tradition of hard-working, reform-minded leadership in the House of Representatives. Serving as Chairman of the House Budget Committee, Paul is a leading voice for fiscal discipline and accountability in the federal government. He is also a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, where he has focused his efforts on making health care more affordable and more accessible, reducing the complexity and burdens of our federal tax code, and strengthening American jobs and competitiveness.

In 2008, he introduced “A Roadmap for America’s Future,” a comprehensive proposal that tackles the interrelated crises in health care, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, our outdated tax code, and our exploding debt. In 2009 and 2010, Paul led Republicans in opposing the Democrats’ health care overhaul offering the “Patients’ Choice Act”, a free-market alternative that would fix what’s broken in our health care system without breaking what’s working. Most recently, Paul authored and was instrumental in helping to pass the House Republican budget, the “Path to Prosperity”, which provides a comprehensive blueprint on how we can pay off our debt, reform our tax code, and grow the economy.

Prior to his election to Congress, Paul worked at Ryan Inc., Central – a construction firm that was founded by his great-grandfather in 1884 - and gained experience in public service serving as an aide, economic advisor, and speechwriter for conservative leaders like Jack Kemp and Bill Bennett. Paul currently resides near his childhood home in Janesville, his church – St. John Vianney’s Parish, and his alma mater - Joseph A. Craig High School. He and his wife Janna are the proud parents of three children – Liza, Charlie and Sam.

Lecture and Book Signing with Craig Shirley
Tuesday, May 29, 2012
Book signing: 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Lecture: 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

New York Times bestselling author Craig Shirley will be at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on Tuesday, May 29 to discuss and sign copies of his latest book*, December 1941: 31 Days that Changed America and Saved the World. This event is free to attend, however reservations are recommended by visiting. Reagan’s Country Café will remain open until 6:00 p.m. for those who would like to purchase a snack or dinner.

In the days before the attack on Pearl Harbor, eyes in America were focused on the war in Europe or distracted by the elevated mood sweeping the country in the final days of the Great Depression. But when planes dropped out of a clear blue sky and bombed the American naval base and aerial targets in Hawaii, all of that changed. December 1941 takes readers into the moment-by-moment ordeal of a nation waking to war by featuring surprising revelations, amusing anecdotes, and heart-wrenching stories, and by exploring the unique religious and spiritual dimension of a culture under assault on the eve of Christmas. Before the attack on Pearl Harbor, the closest thing to war for the Americans was uncoordinated, mediocre war games in South Carolina. Less than thirty days later, by the end of December 1941, the nation was involved in a pitched battle for the preservation of its very way of life, a battle that would forever change the nation and the world.

Craig Shirley is President and CEO of Shirley & Banister Public Affairs, which he founded in 1984. He is also the bestselling author of Reagan’s Revolution: The Untold Story of the Campaign That Started It All, which detailed Ronald Reagan’s pivotal 1976 presidential campaign and of Rendezvous with Destiny: Ronald Reagan and the Campaign That Changed America, which details Ronald Reagan’s 1980 Campaign.

Mr. Shirley has been professionally involved in American politics and government for over three decades. He has worked in government and on campaigns at the congressional, gubernatorial and presidential levels and has appeared on or been interviewed by nearly every major media outlet over that time.
